A DVD extractor for Mac
MacTheRipper is a premium multimedia software that serves as a DVD ripper and extractor designed for use on Mac operating systems. The software's primary purpose is to help users make digital copies of their DVDs, allowing them to transfer the content onto their computers or other portable devices. It serves as a practical tool to preserve and protect their DVD collections.
MacTheRipper has the ability to bypass copy protection and region codes found on commercial DVDs. This means that users can freely extract the content from their DVDs without restrictions or limitations.
Digital preservation and customization
MacTheRipper offers a wide range of customization options, allowing users to select specific video or audio tracks to extract, as well as the option to choose their desired output format. Offering flexibility, each output can be made compatible with iPad, iPod, iPhone, or other portable media players. Users can also remove unwanted features, such as DVD trailers, advertisements, and behind-the-scenes extras.
To maximize the viewing experience, the software provides high-quality output, maintaining the original audio and video quality of the DVD during the extraction process. It also fosters efficiency by supporting batch processing, allowing users to rip multiple DVDs in a single session, saving time and effort. Moreover, even the most novice users can navigate and operate this tool effortlessly with its intuitive interface.
However, it is important to note that this software is no longer free, as it has transitioned to a donationware or shareware model. This means that users will need to pay a premium to use it for DVD ripping, a factor that greatly contributed to the decline of its popularity. For those who are looking for an alternative choice, you may try EaseFab and HandBrake.
Not the economical choice
In conclusion, MacTheRipper used to be the go-to option among Mac users for its user-centric mechanics and ability to retain the original quality of DVD content. However, the software has evolved over time, and it is no longer completely free to use due to the constant need for ongoing development and support. While it's still a viable choice with its comprehensive features, it might be economical to consider alternative options.

A warning to potential buyers: The people who run the paid version of MTR are unscrupulous. After jumping through a LOT of hoops to acquire the version that works on Mac Lion (and forward) I had the app running beautifully for about six months before I had to purchase a new computer. Trying to get the team to respond to e-mails about getting a new license was impossible. They dragged the process out for over a month and then left me hanging after they said they would e-mail me the new license number. I've never encountered anything like this before. Really, really bad business. So, while I can review the product whole-heartedly, the people you have to buy it from are not trustworthy. Buyer beware. (PS: I am using dvdfab10 now. It does a comparable job.) More

Worth Paying! Has been worth it for years..
Paid version? makes total sense to me. Millions of people using a product that this person(s) developed and kept up-to-date by donation only. Mactheripper has been better than paid versions for years, and i believe the team deserves to get paid for their excellent work. I'll buy mine the next paycheck.Good for you, geezerbuttz (and development team... If you have one)! i hope all your work pays off well!"the workman is worthy of his hire."
Pros:
Simple
Handles different Region codes without having to change it on your system preferences
Cons:
Scene selection (or bookmark selection) More

Does not work on OSX Lion.
It appears that the new, free version of Mac The Ripper does not work on OSX Lion. I don't believe that there is an inherent issue with moving to Lion since the author has done it with the paid version. This is unfortunate. I liked the program up until this change in direction. More

MacTheRipper 2.6.6 is the best!.
...and when you think about that MacTheRipper 2.6.6 has not had an update in years speaks volumes about what a stable well written and user-friendly program it is! unfortunately I just upgraded to Lion and Lion does not support PowerPc applications. So I am shopping for a replacement however if you don't have Lion MacTheRipper 2.6.6 is the program to use to rip copy protected DVD's and not copy protected DVD's then use Popcorn or Toast to burn the folders onto a DVD or into iTunes or another app for playback.
